Firefighters: Engines of Community Safety [infographic]

My new roommate is an Austin-area firefighter. I feel really safe knowing that I’ll be living with someone who knows about fire safety, and basic EMT skills. One lazy evening I started asking him about what it took to become a firefighter and was very surprised with how long and competitive the process is! It takes an extraordinary person to become part of a fire academy. Apart from passing numerous exams, their physiques must be in top shape to be able to carry heavy equipment and injured people out of burning buildings. Today’s infographic educates us about different fire-related facts, and the costly price it takes to train and equip a firefighter. It costs a lot of money to supply a firefighter with their essential supplies, but it’s almost considered priceless when numerous lives are saved by these selfless heroes. [via]
